HOD Message 

The Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Department specializes in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, which involve the muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and other structures related to the body’s movement. Here’s an overview:

  1. Assessment:

   – Clinical Examination: In-depth assessment of the musculoskeletal system to identify the root cause of pain or dysfunction.

   – Diagnostic Imaging: Collaboration with radiologists for X-rays, MRI, or other imaging studies to further evaluate musculoskeletal issues.

  1. Treatment Modalities:

   – Exercise Prescription: Tailored exercise programs to improve strength, flexibility, and functional capacity.

   – Manual Therapy: Hands-on techniques such as joint mobilization and soft tissue manipulation to improve mobility and reduce pain.

   – Posture Correction: Addressing posture-related issues contributing to musculoskeletal problems.

  1. Rehabilitation:

   – Post-Surgical Rehabilitation: Guiding patients through rehabilitation after orthopedic surgeries.

   – Injury Prevention: Providing strategies and exercises to prevent musculoskeletal injuries.

  1. Patient Education:

   – Self-Management: Empowering patients with knowledge and tools for self-care and prevention.

   – Lifestyle Modification: Recommending changes to daily activities or ergonomics to support musculoskeletal health.

The Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Department aims to restore optimal function, reduce pain, and enhance the overall musculoskeletal well-being of individuals, whether they have acute injuries, chronic conditions, or post-surgical rehabilitation needs.

Department Objectives

  1. To identify, evaluate, analyze & discuss primary and secondary musculo-skeletal dysfunction, based on biomechanical, kinesiological & patho-physiological principles & correlate the same with the investigations as applicable & arrive at the appropriate Physiotherapy diagnosis with skillful evaluation of structure and function with clinical reasoning.
  2. To provide Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy education to students to be a competent physiotherapist in clinical practice.
  3. To inculcate the research oriented curiosity in clinical practice to improve quality of patient care.
  4. To acquire ethical skills by demonstrating safe, respectful and effective performance of physical handling techniques taking into account the patient’s clinical condition, the need for privacy, the resources available and the environment.
  5. To provide an opportunity for students to learn advanced physiotherapy education in musculoskeletal sciences.
